Tuning Equipment

Automatic tuning will tune from channels 21 through to 69. The problem is some equipment will lock onto the wrong transmitter which means it is not the transmitter that the aerial is aligned to. This will cause the reception to be inconsistent and problematic. The main issues we get in the Southeast would be equipment tuning into the Crystal Palace transmitter as this is the first group of channels the tuning process would go through.
Manual tuning overcomes the above issues as some equipment can have the specific channel numbers entered.

Common Faults

Just moved in with no signal
  • The equipment will need retuning, especially if you have moved from another area.
  • If you have multiple outlets, these will run off an amplifier possibly situated in the loft or electrical distribution point. Check it is switched on.
  • Check cable is connected to TV outlet not radio outlet.
  • Some distribution amplifiers are fed by a 12 volt power-unit, which sends the 12V via the coaxial cable to feed the amplifier. It is common for these to be removed by the previous owners. They would normally be situated behind the main TV, normally lounge.

Other Faults

  • Power-unit accidently switched off. Common over Christmas when tree lights are installed.
  • Distribution amplifier switched off, possibly in loft.
  • DECT phones can interfere with reception if too close to TV.
  • Poor reception when raining could be water getting into cable, sometimes it will leak out of end of cable and into the TV.
  • Poor signal, check your equipment is tuned into the correct region.
  • Intermittent satellite reception can be due to trees or other foliage in front of dish.
